How We Work Together

01.

Book An Appointment

Email your doctor’s referral to info@sswspecialists.com.au. Your referral will be triaged by Dr. Kamalaraj based on medical urgency.

HOT TIP – The more information you provide with the referral including details from your GP such as medical history, relevant blood test results and scan reports, the more accurate the triage can be.

WorkCover – If your case is under WorkCover – please let our staff know at the time of booking to ensure there is no delay to your assessment.

02.

Learn About Us

All patients should read our practice policies which will be emailed to you ahead of your appointment along with any other important information to ensure a smooth experience for your first appointment.

03.

During Your Appointment

See how we work below.

We suggest bringing a family member or companion to help listen during the appointment. Feel free to bring and take notes. The first appointment tends to be quite overwhelming with information so the above strategies can help you to remember your consultation with Dr. Kamalaraj.

04.

After Your Appointment

Payment is due at the time of your appointment or before if your consultation is via Telehealth. Cash is not accepted.

Please look after any blood test or scan request forms, scripts or any other paperwork provided to you by Dr. Kamalaraj as there may be a fee for replacement.

It’s important to review the information provided to you in your consultation and further information can often be found on the Arthritis Australia website.

How Our Process Works

History

Dr. Kamalaraj will spend some time taking a comprehensive history of your rheumatological problems and goals for management.

Examination

Dr. Kamalaraj will perform a thorough physical examination based on your symptoms.

Investigations

Dr. Kamalaraj will review any relevant investigations you bring and arrange for further testing as appropriate including blood tests and scans.

Diagnosis

Dr. Kamalaraj uses your history, physical examination, and test results to work towards a diagnosis, which he will discuss with you.

Management

Dr. Kamalaraj will work with you to develop a management plan based on your individual circumstances.

Review

Many rheumatic diseases are chronic medical conditions and require ongoing management. You will be monitored periodically by Dr. Kamalaraj to assess your condition and treatment response.

Please note that as of 2026, Dr. Kamalaraj will be practising team-based care with a second doctor, Dr. Kaitlin Shen, who is a senior rheumatology registrar. Dr. Shen will take a history, examine you, and arrange investigations as part of your assessment. Your case will be discussed between both doctors in your presence to develop a diagnosis and management plan. You will be seen by both Dr. Kamalaraj and Dr. Shen at each appointment.
